when to start deodorant?
September 3, 2010, 3:17 pm
Back in the 1960s, I remember that the boys were well known for getting stinky in fifth grade. I taught fifth grade, and after one of my boys -- rather neglected by his parents -- got to smell so much like an uncleaned hamster cage that kids were beginning to comment and I could barely tolerate...

Allie and Anya (talking Russian doll)
September 3, 2010, 9:11 pm
I also have a tomboy here. Ironically earlier in the day(yesterday) my dd told me she has no interest in dolls (well maybe she'll like one for her birthday). Where can you buy the Anya doll anyway? I never heard of it before. Also can you post a closeup? I had a hard time seeing the doll or your dd...
Agencies??? MLJ??
September 3, 2010, 6:04 pm
Remember that Korea is the only country that does not let you use an agency anywhere in the U.S., for a non-special needs adoption. It requires you to use a U.S. agency that the Korean government specifically licenses for placing children with families IN YOUR HOME STATE. Does the agency you...

misstique...I would advise you to proceed with caution. We adopted internationally 4 yrs ago, older children, bio teenage sister & brother. I was 55 and husband 52. We had been married without children for over 25 years, tried to have children but was not successful. We did not want an...

PBS - POV Broadcast Following Older Child China Adoption
September 3, 2010, 9:38 am
I plan to watch it online this weekend, but I read some of the comments posted on PBS' website by adoptive parents. Sounds like it is going to be pretty hard to watch. There are three separate shows following three families in this series. The second comes out next week and deals with...
Can Single Women Adopt from Taiwan?
September 3, 2010, 8:24 am
After a lotttt of independent research, I've feeling quite discouraged. It seems my best and only option is to attempt domestic adoption, where single parents do find success. This means saying goodbye to my desire for cultural familiarity among my children (my bio daughter is half Taiwanese and...
Where to buy Hanbok?
September 3, 2010, 8:10 am
Did you know that there are ebay stores that sell them? I would check that out. I know there is a store near us (in Annandale, VA) that sells them. I haven't found a website yet though. Check these out too: Hanbok Store ø Wow Vendors Hanbok « The Korean Baby (I like this site for a variety of...
fun friday- favorite show your preschooler/young kid watches
August 31, 2010, 7:14 am
My DD loves Scooby Doo and will pick it over almost anything. She even has 3 episodes on her Ipod. However I didn't see it as an option so HM is probably the one she'd choose out of that list. She does love Tom and Jerry as well. She also likes ICarly but I've banned that show from our house....
Question about Korean names
September 3, 2010, 7:55 am
Interesting posts! Thanks for sharing all of this. I've often seen the name separated by spaces but not hyphens. "Name Name" if that makes sense. I think I've also seen NameName so that you see the extra capitalization as a separation. I'm just starting to learn how to read Korean so...

After being matched, plan on at least 6-8 months if you have already done some of the preliminary paperwork. Plan longer if not, another 4-6 months. Ours took total of 1 year 8 months start to end with so many glitches and delays due to the new Hague regulations. This was for a waiting sibling...

My DD (adopted from Russia) is in precocious puberty as well as being dxed with Idiopathic Short Stature...not a good combo. She started with breast buds at age 7...and she is super tiny and thin...now at age 9 and on growth hormone injections...she is just 48" tall and 53'ish pounds. We are...
